My first musical outing was with schoolmates Tony Chins, Graeme Page and Michael Cascade as the group Amalgamation in the late '80s. We wanted to make music for ourselves instead of buying it. The groups name came about because each of us wanted to bring different styles to the sound. We played a few gigs around Worthing and made a pile of home cassette recordings. Tony on guitar, myself on bass, Michael on vox and keyboards and Graeme on percussion. But we never really pushed ourselves and we let the group slip away. We all went to gigs, festivals and went on holidays together - having some great, memorable times.
Sadly in the summer of 2005 Michael passed away. In April this year I completed an Enhanced CD compiling Amalgamations recordings and photos as a tribute to Michael.

After Amalgamation Tony and I founded another musical project with another like minded fellow, Sandy Peters. After one drunken afternoon in 1993 at the Crescent public house in Brighton we decided to start a band. Sandy had never played drums before but he was convinced, and so we started playing in various rehearsal rooms in Brighton. Tony was writing the songs-mostly rock and rock ballads-but soon Sandy found his writing quill and also came up with some cracking lyrics. Various names were thought of but Clownfish became the winner. This line up never gigged but, again, another drunken afternoon (how, where and when is lost) introduced us to Chris Brown who was a bass guitarist - he was interested so he joined as second guitarist - this line up gigged a few times in Brighton and also recorded some tracks for the only CD. It was was near the eve of the Millennium that the band last played together, finishing the night off with a curry in town. Sandy left for his new life in Russia and so the others played on. I have archived the whole of the Clownfish rehearsal recordings and am planning the issue of a full DVD.

During the intermediate time of Sandy's leaving Ade started to fill in for him on drums in rehearsals - calling ourselves Blister we played a different feel of music. In fact one gig saw the Blister and Clownfish line-ups play the same evening at the Freebutt in Brighton (held in the archives for DVD release).

Here are a couple of rare clips of the one gig where Clownfish and Blister played at the Freebutt in Brighton in 1996. Blister played first, then Ade's main band - Monkey Floss were on and finally Clownfish finished the night off (unfortunately after last orders so we couldn't get a drink!)

Blister - 'Hard Love'

Clownfish - 'Pictures of Matchstick Men'

During all this music-rehearsals were at least once a week, in early 2000, I went on a press trip to Croatia for the magazine I was working for and I met a very special girl who I travelled backwards and forwards to see until
in December 2002 we were married in the Governor's Place in Rijeka in Croatia. A grand affair with Graeme being my Best Man - Chris also came along. Unfortunately they only stayed two full days.

It was a very difficult decision to make to leave England and move to Croatia, but I had a very stressful job and after spending so much time in Croatia previously I decided to leave. So I joined the other Golgis for my final recording session in late 2003. The result being the aptly titled 'Pa-pa Smješko' CD.

Since then I have been working as a graphic designer and English language proofreader here in the city of Rijeka. I have designed the Golgis CD sleeves and have been lucky enough to play with them every time I travel back to Blighty.

In May 2008 I hooked up with Rijeka's Beatles Revival Band and have created their new website. They are one of Croatia's best and most popular tribute bands. Here's a glimpse from their concert DVD recorded at the Stereo concert hall in Rijeka in December 2006.
